Obituary for Douglas D. Bergquist
Douglas David Bergquist - son of David and Candy Bergquist, Manchester-by-the-Sea, age 36, died in his sleep of natural causes Monday August 7th in Dorchester, MA. Born in Boston, he was raised in Manchester-by-the-Sea, and a graduate of its high school, Class of 2000. He leaves behind, besides his parents, his sister Lauren, her husband Jeffrey, and his loving companion for the past five years, Megan Mount. At the time of his death, Douglas was a chef at Bar Mezzana, Boston; but his culinary career included such well-known Boston-area restaurants as Deuxave, Boston Chops, dBar, Legal Harborside, West Bridge, Sel De La Terre, , and Primo in Rockland, ME. Douglas had a “full-of-life” personality noteworthy for the gusto with which he filled each moment of everyday. After graduating from high school, he spent a winter working at the Alta Lodge, Alta, UT in order to pursue his love of skiing. Soon thereafter he was employed by the Noble Corporation as a “roust-about” on oils rigs in the Gulf Coast. Whereupon his move to New York City led him into the restaurant industry and his love of cooking. To be around Douglas while preparing a meal for the patron of a restaurant, or a friend, or his family was to see someone in love with both his profession and those he loved as a friend, a brother, and a son. A memorial service in celebration of his life will held at the Christ Church of Hamilton & Wenham, 149 Asbury Street, So. Hamilton, MA, Monday, August 14th at 10:00am. Following the service there will be a reception in the parish hall and courtyard. Instead of flowers please send donations to Boston Greater Food Bank, 70 South Bay Avenue Boston, MA 02118.
