Obituary for Barbara Egan

BEVERLY: Barbara (Fitzgerald) Egan, 86, went home to God, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, May 13, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul L. Egan who died in 1993.
Born in Danvers, on August 21, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Mary (Saulnier) Fitzgerald. She resided in Beverly for most of her life.
Barbara was employed as a licensed practical nurse at the former Danvers State Hospital for many years. After retiring from nursing, she worked as a telephone operator for several years at both the Beverly and Salem Hospitals. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church and formerly served as Vice-President of the North Shore Outreach Ministry. Barbara was also a tireless volunteer helping the homeless and all those in need.
She is survived by her loving son, Paul L. Egan, II and his wife, Bonnie of Beverly and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her two sisters, Agnes Grub and Geraldine Culliton and three brothers, Arthur, George and Edmund Fitzgerald.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday in St. John the Evangelist Church, 111 New Balch St., Beverly at 12 noon. Visitation will be held in the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly prior to the Mass from 10-11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
