Obituary for William P. Cormier

William P. Cormier
Beverly - William P. Cormier 72, beloved husband of Kathleen (Nimblett) Cormier, died Monday, April 10, 2017 at Beverly Hospital.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late William A. and Florence A. (Woods) Cormier. He was raised in Beverly and graduated from Beverly Trade School, Class of 1962. Mr. Cormier continued his education and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the United States Naval Reserve.
Mr. Cormier had been employed for 24 years in the telephone communications industry in various positions, retiring in 2003 from Verizon as a Financial Planning and Analysis Manager at its Middleton Yellow Pages office. Prior to that he had worked for the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) jobs program in Salem and for Wilkscraft Creative Printing in Beverly, where he met his wife.
A lifelong resident of Beverly, Mr. Cormier had volunteered with the Big Brothers program and later volunteered as a coach for the Beverly Little League. He was a gifted photographer, taking and sharing endless photos of family and friends. A talented upright bassist, he was a lover of jazz music and the Great American Songbook. In his youth, as a member of the Sea Scouts Program, he developed a love and respect for the sea and acquired his many maritime skills. Later he enjoyed hiking in the White Mountains and sharing his love and knowledge of the wilderness with family and friends. He was a jack-of-all trades when it came to maintaining his home and yard. He was also an avid reader of many subjects, especially science and history, and he always kept up with technological advances and the latest gadgetry. His greatest passion and focus, however, was his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage, he is survived by two sons, Joshua Cormier and his wife, Amanda of Manahawkin, NJ and Adam Cormier of Beverly, two grandchildren, Cole and Paige Cormier of Manahawkin NJ, two sisters, Thelma Johnson of Beverly and Anita Cross of Beverly, a brother, Glenn Cormier and his wife, Nancy of Stoneham and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 2 to 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Beverly Hospital Critical Care Unit, c/o Philanthropy, 85 Herrick St, Beverly, MA 01915. Information, directions, condolences at .
